I have the exact same impression as GoofyDawg. I grabbed a Comanche Tribute about 6 months ago and it is my best guitar. I have over 20 guitars, strats, Jaguars, Jazzmasters, I even have a PRS soapbar SE, like you, Ovation Deacons, Schecters and believe it or not an original G&L Comanche VI Leo Fender signature model from the early 90's.
I like all my guitars, but I have to say, the Tribute Comanche is the only one that every time I pick it up and play it, I actually like how I sound. I have been playing for many years, but I am not very good, so for me to sound good is remarkable to me. The Tribute Comanche is the most comfortable guitar to play that I own and I only paid 500 bucks for it which is even better.
And I do like Strats, but I have to say, I don't always sound good on mine. The Comanche Tribute is one of those "sleepers" that is waiting to be discovered by the mainstream professionals.
BTW I also bought a Comanche V USA made for my son (who is a real musician) in the 90's and he used it many years for jazz gigs he played in New Orleans. Then they were about 900 bucks. Now they are considerably more, so the Tribute will put these fine instruments within the budgets of people who don't have tons of discretionary money.

Great review! I didn't realize that the G&L Tribute series was just the massed produced version of the original G&Ls. I haven't tried one out yet, but I'll now keep an eye out for one next time I'm in the shop.
