I was perusing Solid Cables site this morning, and couldn’t find any pricing, so I surfed their dealer list to see how much I could get a 10′-12′ cord for. I found this site that had one of their Dynamic Arc Ultra cables listed for $135.95! OMG! I think the most I’ve ever paid for a cable was $80, and I still have that cable – it’s great; well-made with solid construction. People have raved about real high-end cables in the past, and I’m wondering how big of a difference they make. In any case, I put together a poll to see what people would pay for a cable. Here it is:
So just how much would you pay for a cable?

I always get the Monster Standard Cable. 20′ runs about $20-25. I have never had any problems with them. I did, however splurge on the patch cables for my pedal board. I went through so many $5 patch cables I decided to spend a bit more. I now use the DiMarzio cables. They are about $13 for a 6″ cable, but the quality is amazing. I don’t think I could rip an end off if I tried.
I was splurging paying like $35 for a DiMarzio cable. $136? I don’t think so… I would like to hear one though. Better yet, I’d like to hear a blind (so to speak) sound test with a couple different cables to see if people could pick out the $136 cable.
Kind of reminds me of the “Judgement of Paris” in 1976 where California wines beat French wines in a blind tasting. The world was convinced that French wines were superior. Frankly, I’m not convinced about these high-end cables sounding that much better.
However, I did speak with Neal Moser at MoserCustomGuitars.com personally about them, and he said they’re really well made and they sound really good, but he generally makes his own cables that he’s perfectly happy with.
