I wrote this song in my head yesterday while I was driving home from work. Amazing how stuff just gets into your head. I named it “Que Cosa” because of my wife asking me, “What’s wrong?” while I was working out the arrangement. She said I had this concerned expression on my face. Anyway, give it a listen and let me know what you think!

BTW, the drums and bass were all loops in GarageBand, and I used “Rusty,” my beloved ES-335 for the guitars.
Goof, very nice! I so dig it man. Great sound, great composition, awesome melody. Wow.

Thanks, Ig! This piece was a real lesson in restraint for me because I wanted to add A LOT of stuff to it. For instance, the solo in the middle is actually a replacement solo that I did in a single take (I’m actually amazed that I’ve progressed far enough in my improv skills over the past year where I can actually do that – doesn’t happen often, but it’s great when it does). Anyway, I liked the original solo, but there was just too much going on in it, so I simply scrapped it. Took a five minute break to think it over, then just played what I “felt.”
I really challenged myself to get my message across in as few notes as possible. Plus, taking the mechanics out of the solo really helped me be much more organic with my approach.
As for the melody line, I’m still scratching my head a bit on that one, asking myself, “Did I really write that?” It was almost accidental. I was just driving along, and the song came to me from seemingly out of nowhere. Kind of freaky, actually…
