After reading hundreds of new guitar announcements, I’m normally not too intrigued when someone comes out with a new one, unless they’re really special. The last time I got really excited about a new guitar announcement was the PRS DGT, but the latest guitar from Vox is VERY intriguing to me for a couple of reasons.
First, it’s a Vox, much more known for their amps, but over 30 years ago they did build guitars. Secondly, the features in this guitar make it seem incredibly versatile.
I need to find a place to play it! If you have any information on this guitar, please post it!
I don’t have any information on the Vox Virages, but I agree that they do look nice! I’m looking forward to playing one.
$2500? yikes.
Yeah. And if you get all the accoutrements then it may run over $3000. Yikes for sure, but it’s no different from custom shop prices.
I really do want to play one. Vox apparently decided to go with a limited run and compete on the custom shop/boutique level as opposed to doing high-production to see how well the guitar is received. Only time will tell if it lasts.
but, where is it made? i can’t find a straight answer.
they point out a couple times that the PICKUPS are made in the usa, though. that makes me think everything else isn’t.
It’s assembled in Japan, according to the Guitar Player article I read on it. My feeling is that it better be damn good to warrant that kind of price.
It looks intriguing but Wow-$3000 for something made in Japan? …Who’s pocketing the other $2300? Yamaha is turning out some pretty nice jazz-boxes in the 1K range – whats up with Vox’s price? Did you get a street price with any of your research?
It’s not out in stores yet, so I’m not sure what the street price will be. I too was surprised to see that it was assembled in Japan, but I’m going to hold off on judgment until I actually play it.
I’m the guy who won a promotional id for one on eBay few months ago. Here’s what I know after reading and talking to the Vox techs….
They are assemled at the Fugi Gaki ( spelling ?) factory in Japan. It’s famous for building many of the very high end MIJ Fenders that has Fender Corp. so freaked out at times. They are often considered some of the best guitar crafters in the world. For all those who cut down MIJ guitars…. remember hat happened in the lawsuits of the 70’s and early 80 to mid 80’s. Anyway…. I talked to some folks who played them at NAMM and they sy it is an amazing guitar. aid playability and sound was excellent and in general was a better instrument than many current high end Gibson or Fender products. They aid craftsmanship was outstanding.
The street price is already popping up at 2395 for single cut and 2595 for double.
Someone asked about the pups. They are made in USA by Dimarzio. A new model for them, with a three bladed, three way switchable design. Hum, P90 and single. One switch for each pup besides tone and volume, so sound combos are pretty extensive.
The deign team was very good, including some very well known deigners (see http://www.voxvirage.com).
I’m excited to get thi thing in my hands finally, but I haveknow idea when they will finally release it. Frustrating.
I sstill reccommend nealmoser.com, for a really excellent hand made. I love my moser super strat. Kicks ass on everything I have and everything I’ve ever played… and I’ve been making noise since 1963.
They are out now 8/15/08. I’m buying a Virage DC for 2299. I’ve been playing since 1965… and I can’t wait…plus I have a 30 trial on the Ax so it is win win for me…I hope it’s light in weight like Guitar Players 6.9 lbs on the one they tested and everything they say it is…….Check Harmony Central there is one review on there.
