Hey I just bought a VOX AC30CCHHW OMG !!!!! it rocks !! I link the normal and high boost channel with the toggle and run a Visual sound double trouble in front of the amp(basically two tube screamers in one pedal) for my crunch and leads. OMG !!!!!!! AWSOME I now know why this is on everyones altime favorite list !! ok well just had to share the love !! laters CRASH
Have you ever played an AC30? . . . . . SWEET !!!!!
Yes, and I love ’em! But before I get an AC30, I’m going to get a Victoria Double Deluxe. I just dig that amp!
BTW, what cabinet are you running for output?
Interesting…discussing both the AC30 and the double deluxe. I’ve spent a few hours with a double deluxe and several with an AC30 loaded with Alnico bluedogs. Tonally they both cross over in some similar territories. I remembered an article I read in a tonequest double-deluxe review which said something similar…
“We’ve found that anywhere a Vox AC30 would be desired, a Double Deluxe is really at home. There are many obvious similarities-4 cathode-biased power tubes running Class A EL84’s and 6V6’s are quite similar tonally. The pentode EL84 has a bit more high-end extension and it isn’t as smooth and textured in the midrange. But overall, both of these amps fit into the same power category, they both use 2×12’s as drivers and they are renowned for their musical, chimey tone when driven.” Bottom line, both are great amps. Both sing tonally in the hands of the right player.
One question…What does the suffix “CCHHW” mean?
PS. My next amp is either a double deluxe or an 18-watt trem d’ la trem with a 15-in speaker. Personally I dig the more american tone of the 6V6 over the more british EL-84.
The double deluxe is a dream to play – I just have to get the money together to get one. BTW, how’s the new goldtop?
Thanks for asking GDawg -I usually like to bring more than one axe to a gig, usually a tele or my Soapbar PRS share duties with a humbucker guitar. The last two gigs I never put down the DGT. It just has that mojo thats hard to put your finger on. Part balance, part tone, and that neck carve with the 6100 frets just feels “right”. You know how a great guitar just really feels like an extension of your own arm – this one has that feeling.
BTW. Once you get that double deluxe, I hope you dont stop reviewing pedals…hahaha. I like those posts. But- With a double deluxe, all you need is a guitar, a cord, and your volume control.
I don’t think I’ll ever stop reviewing pedals… I love ’em too much! Though, with the DD, I’ll probably significantly reduce the number of pedals I use. Probably narrow down to modulation effects like chorus, delay, and vibe. Of course, I think I’ll probably always have my Tube Screamer… but you never know. 🙂
Its the HANDWIRED version . . . thats what the”HW” at the end is.As for cab . . I’ve got the English Vox 212 w/ blues. I also bought a Trolley from NORTH COAST MUSIC . . . Its AWSOME !!!
