If you’ve never heard of him, Greg Koch is one of the finest guitarists around. A Fender clinician, he spends much of his time extolling the virtues of Fender guitars. This dude can play! Amazingly enough, there doesn’t appear to be an arrogant bone in his body. Greg is really the consummate showman as you’ll see in the video below.
As I said, that dude can play! But as you saw in the video, he shows his skill in a completely non-arrogant way – it’s pure entertainment. That’s what makes Greg Koch a Top Dawg!
Whoa! What a great display of Fender (twin reverb?) Telewhackin, bridge pickup, hybrid pickin, B-bendin, fretboard mastery! To be honest, I’d never heard of this guy, but I have now. Frighteningly talented dude. Loved it.
He’s a sick guitarist. He has a line of dvd’s out that show you how to play SRV, The Allman Bros, Assorted Blues Greats, and his own music. He also has a bunch of CD’s out. He’s probably the next greatest guitarist you’ve never heard of, right behind Danny Gatton.

Like Adam, I first learned of Greg Koch from his instructional DVDs. He is an awesome player and it shows, but he does not “show” off. Love his sense of humor also. If you are not in the mood to play, just watch Greg’s video clips, and you will be back in the mood. You can also check out Greg’s work on a CD included in the Stratocaster Chronicles Book. Another amazing player wth instructional DVDs is Andy Aledort. Check him out, I also like his non-arrogant style.
Like Jeff, who Like me, heard of Greg Koch from his instructional DVD’s, I too think Andy Aledort is great.
Since we’re name dropping great guitarists who are a little less than known, Philip Sayce is yet another good guitarist in the same genre, though he doesn’t have any instructional videos that I know of.
I’ve watched this guy for years. Greg graduated in Jazz Guitar from my alma-mater. Had a great band in Milwaukee called Greg Koch and the Tone Controls. He’s funny as hell too, if you ever get a chance to meet him. Very unpretentious and so talented, its scary.
