Wow! I’m having A LOT of fun editing this series because I’m just blown away by Doug’s incredible talent! What a gift! In any case, this part of the series has Doug discussing tone shaping with the ODS pre-amp section, and talking about playing a Strat through the amp. Plus, there’s a little surprise at the end. π Cheers!

After talking with and listening to Bruce Egnater talk I now find it hilarious that people pay stupid money for Dumble amps, one of his acclaimed 20k amps is very easy to recreate for cheap if you know what you are doing and let’s face it Bruce has been around a long time, he worked on one of SRV’s Dumbles.
If you ever get the chance to talk with him he is really open about his work and happy to tell you how things work, really interesting guy. Wish I lived in the US I want to go to one of his workshops!
Anyway, loving the Doug clips keep them coming!
Bruce makes some great amps, Jon, and rather than getting into a debate about whether or not it can be easily duplicated – there are more than enough heated debates out there – all I have to say in reply is that you have to personally experience it, then draw your own conclusions. I tend to be rather incredulous about lots of claims, but once I had the chance to experience the amp myself, a lot of what I’ve heard over the years is true – at least in my experience. π
BTW, kudos to you on your site! Love your videos!

Yeah I wasn’t trying to start up the old Dumble debate like every other day on TGP lol! I was just surprised by Bruce’s inside knowledge but then I shouldn’t be because we all know every amp is based of Leo Fender’s designs… but now he has me more obsessed with amps than ever before! Argh just what I need, more G.A.S!
No kidding about the Dumble debate on TGP!!! OMG! I’ve stopped participating in them (though I admit to lurking π ). The problem with discussing it in a forum is that – as I mentioned above – in order to understand what all the hype is about, you have to experience the amp first-hand. The heated discussions on the forums were why Doug and I wanted to take the approach of just providing information on the performance of the amp through direct demonstration and discussion. That way, if Doug makes a statement and backs it up with a discussion, it’s less open to debate. π
