Just came across this today, and it is the most comprehensive OD shootout I’ve seen/heard – EVER! This isn’t a simple A/B. This is 36 OD pedals. Very good!
NOTE: If the video keeps stopping, watch the video on the YouTube site directly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuTt8YFblcE
For some reason, this keeps reloading. At this rate, it will take three hours to get through, so I’m gonna forget it. Let me know if the problem can be fixed. I’d like to see it.
Thanks!
I was impressed with the lovepedal stuff especially the Kanji, the Klons were cool but as with most overhyped stuff not worth the used price.
Rockbox boiling point, Rodenberg Gas 808, Skreddy screwdriver, Paul C Tim (handwired ?) Paul said there is no handwired version all of them have a PCB. Wampler Paisley…Xotic and Zvex are always great..
They definately missed some.. Menatone/Fargen Vos is one of my favorites with the right amp analog man and keeley should have been in there as well as many others.
and as cool as it was, having numerous Distortion pedals like the DS-1 in an overdrive shootout seemed a little off target..
Yeah, I was a little surprised at seeing the DS-1, which to me, sounded like crap with that guitar/amp; didn’t really belong. If there was going to be a BOSS pedal, perhaps the Blues Driver would’ve made more sense.
I really dug the Xotic and Wampler Paisley, and was glad to see the Timmy for which I’m on the waiting list. 🙂
I love my Boss Blues Driver, although I have the Keeley modded one. Play it through my Champ 600.
If you want you can borrow my Tim, and my Dano timmy copy and do a shoot out of your own when the Timmy comes in….
That would actually be pretty cool! Thanks! I’ve seen the Dano vs. Timmy shootout on YouTube by GuitarManDude. They’re VERY similar! 🙂 We’ll hook up when I get it.
Most impressed by the Kanji, the Wampler pedals (especially the Black 65), the Xotic stuff (BB and RC) and, of course, the Tim. Also, the DoctorFX overdrive, though I can’t find anything on it anywhere else on the internet.
There are so many drives out there that it would have been impossible to get them all, but I also really like the stuff that JHS puts out; it would have been cool to see them pick up some of those. Still, really cool demo.
I think it’s rather indicative that there is very little difference in overdrives. Quite a few sound pretty much identical, objectively.
In many decades of playing, the matter is really which one matches well with your guitar and amp, there is no real magic box, or get this one as it is the “best”. You might get the “best” and soon find out it does not sound all that great with your rig.
I love pedals and have several ODs and high gain pedals. I think we change more so because we get sick of the same tones all the time rather than looking for the “best”.
I was excited over getting the ICE 9 but I find myself really working with this box to get some useful tones, I think I finally have it right in my chain and it complements others after it as well as punching the amp with some serious db boost, it is more a true OD and not so much a low gain box. I am rather sick of the OCD at this point. ODs need to have MORE TONE controls like Wampler or Barber! This single knob treble roll off is just too limiting. Is that the sole purpose of tone controls, rolling off the treble?? How about some mid position flat boost/cut controls?
This was a great vid and there are so many pedals out there. I was disapointed in the lack of BARBER, nice to hear the rare Timmy, also no Hermida, Wampler is cool, I actually really like the Klon in the box. My current favs at this time are the real tube high current pedals from Ibanez, hard to go wrong with a real high voltage driven tube over circuits that just mimic a tube.
seriously, I hate the DS-1 and it is NOT an OD!!
If you’re having trouble with the load, jump ahead and go back to try and reset the buffer load.
Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD.
