I can go for weeks on end without wanting gear, but then I see some cool gear, and I just gotta have it – at least if I can afford it. Right now, I’m looking at getting a few things:
- Still waiting on my Timmy pedal. Hopefully that will be coming soon.
- Definitely want a Gretsch Electromatic 5122DC
- I want to get an envelope filter
- I actually need a new vocalizer as my DigiTech Vocalist Live 4 is on its last legs.
- And of course, I always GAS over Les Pauls. I just need an R7 and R0 to complete my reissue/replica collection. 🙂
Luckily I don’t have the money right now, and since I have to pay taxes this year, I’ll have to get these piecemeal.
So what’re you GASing for?
Dude, I feel you. I’m constantly looking at guitar porn. Having a subscription to Guitar Player magazine doesn’t help. I’m currenty rubbing one out to the new Line 6 HD500 and DT50 combo. I just have to convince my wife to let me spend 2 grand to get them. THEN, I have to convince her to let me spend another 3 grand for a Mark V and a G System. THEN, I have to convince her to let me spend another 3 grand for a new guitar with MIDI and ANOTHER grand for a synth.
*cries*
Yes, there is always more stuff to gas for than money to pay for it.
This year I finally got a 12 string after wanting one since the early 90’s.
I wanted an ibanez Reb Beach model for about ten years and finally got one a few years ago, only to find that it did not fit my hands, at all.. Within 5 minutes I said well, this is gone, and sold it the next week..
I got the TC harmony G-XT after only a short 8 month session of gas.
Now … Les Paul 1960 VOS (I prefer thin necks)
a KT66 amp of some kind looking at many.
a Sweetwood Comet.. (made near you)
Etc……
I’m looking to get a semi-hollow guitar right now, which is something I don’t currently have. I also need to replenish my acoustic collection, as I recently sold both of my acoustic guitars because they weren’t comfortable to play.
Well, it doesn’t always have to be new gear either. A guitarist friend of mine found a 12 string on a flea market and bought it for me because he knew I was interested in getting one. The guitar had to be cleaned and restrung but looked like she had been never played.
When I had cleaned her and put on new strings, I understood why she had been never played: the neck was too inclined and the action about 1/2 inch high! I brought her to a luthier who corrected the neck for 60€.
When I got her back, she was easier to play than my 6 string acoustic and she only cost me 130€ all in all. And she sounds great!
Sometimes you can find some real gems at a flea market. It’s not often, but when you make a score like you did, you can get some wonderful stuff for a very small investment.
I’ve got a Phaez 50-watt EL34 amplifier on order from Randy Fay in Ontario, Canada. I’m gassing for it so bad I can hardly stand it. Also, having my old Epiphone Firebird II worked over to make it lighter (chambering) and faster to play (neck and fretboard recarving) by Carey Nordstrand of Nordstrand Guitars. Once I get those done, I’ll gas for something else; perhaps a Harley 1200 Sportster and a new Tele.
I got my ’05 Gretsch Anniversary and ’68 SG Special. Gassing for a Nocturne Atomic Brain pedal – and you may too if you get the Gretsch!!!
