My good buddy Phil and I each received a Guitar Center gift card for doing the soundtrack for one of his friends for a flash mob that her company was doing for a convention. The gift card arrived in time for Christmas, and it is literally burning a hole in my pocket. I could get a few pedals, I could get another nice Classic Vibe Tele (the semi-hollowbody)… But I think what I’ll do is layaway a DV Mark Little 40 L34 amp.
I dig this amp. Since I first discovered it a couple of months ago, I’ve played with it a few times at Guitar Center, and the more I play it, the more I want it. It has a great feel and tone, and the built-in features make this one heck of a versatile amp. The Continuous Power Control – which allows you to vary the output power of the amp – aside, I dig that I can put in a different power tubes, from 6V6, 6L6 and EL34’s to get different sounds; and the amp will automagically bias them and keep them at their optimum settings! NIIIICE! Here’s a nice video demo of the amp.
Looks like a sweet amp, Dawg. I have the same delima and I’m thinking about the Reason Bambino head for about the same price as this amp. I play strats and teles and I’ve heard from you and others that its a great amp for that. If you had to choose between the two, I’m guessing you would go with the Bambino, assuming you didn’t already have it.
Pedals are always fun. The Classic Vibe Thinline would be cool as well. You could keep that one in a different tuning from the Classic Vibe 50s tele that you already have. Thats what I do. I have the 50’s blonde and the butterscotch version and I keep the blonde one in open G for the Keef stuff.
Decisions, decisions…
Hahahaha!!! Always decisions! But I have the Bambino already, and it has a great sound. What I’ve been looking for is something with LOTS of clean headroom, but also something I could get into a good rock crunch. The clean headroom + volume is important to me, so I have to go up in power, and that ruled out a lower power amp, of which I have several.
While I love my Reason Bambino, if I had my druthers, I’d probably go with the Bambino Grande because its extra power makes it even more versatile.
What do these DV’s go for? Good tones!
$799. Played it a few times at Guitar Center and it rocks!

A Guitar Center gift card has got to be the best way to get paid for a job. At least you get to spend it on something fun and interesting. With cash, you might spend some of it on boring stuff like food. I know what I’d rather have.
